Understand the design limitations of cone crushers

Every cone crusher has certain design limitations: volume limitations, horsepower limitations, and crushing force limitations.

Regarding the volume limit, each crushing chamber has a volume limit that determines the maximum output, and a throttle crusher is operating at its volume limit. When raw material overflows the top of the crusher, the volume limit is exceeded.

Horsepower limit
As for the horsepower limit, each crusher is designed to operate at maximum power consumption, which will increase with the increase in feed speed and fine crushing of the feed raw materials. When the crusher consumes more power than the rated power, the horsepower limit has been exceeded.

Finally, we must not forget the crushing force limit of the crusher. Just like the horsepower limit, as the feed speed increases and the feed raw materials are finely crushed, the crushing force exerted between the housing and the bowl lining will also increase. When the adjustment ring jumps, bumps, bounces, swings or moves on the main frame, the crusher's crushing force limit will be exceeded.

"Ideal" operating conditions will exist when the crusher is operating at its volume limit but still slightly below the horsepower limit and crushing force limit. Excessive consumption of power or excessive use of crushing force to operate any crusher outside of its design parameters can result in very severe crusher overloading. These overloads produce something called "fatigue damage," which is permanent, irreversible, and cumulative. There is no doubt that frequent overloading will shorten the service life of any cone crusher.
