1. Ensure the materials are mixed evenly
The feed entering the crushing chamber should not be separated, but should be fully mixed and uniform. When larger stones point to one side of the crushing chamber and smaller stones point to the other side of the crushing chamber, the feed may become separated. In this case, smaller stones will have a higher packing density, which can lead to a condition known as "packing" or "clumping."

The packing causes the adjustment ring to move on the smaller stone side of the crusher, and this movement forces the operator to open the crusher settings. Turning on the crusher settings will eliminate overload conditions, but will result in oversized product due to increased settings. Likewise, if the feed is isolated and the adjustment ring jumps or bumps, the adjustment ring may tilt, which will cause a greater loss of cone crusher productivity.

2. Ensure voltage stability and improve production efficiency
Voltage instability has a negative impact on the production of any crusher. Surge piles or feed hoppers and variable speed feed devices can be used to provide better, more consistent feed control to the crusher. This allows operators to run the crusher at a very consistent and stable chamber height. By better controlling the feed, cone crusher productivity can easily be increased by at least 10%. This can be achieved through the use of surge stacks, hoppers and variable speed feeding devices such as belt conveyors or vibrating plate feeders.
